✧ I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we entered one of the gardens of the Ansar. We began picking dates and eating. He said to me: "O Ibn 'Umar, why do you not eat?" I said: O Messenger of Allah, I do not desire it. He ﷺ said: "But I desire it, and this is the morning of the fourth day since I have not tasted food or found it. If I wished, I would call upon my Lord and He would give me the like of the kingdom of Kisra and Qaysar. How will it be with you, O Ibn 'Umar, if you remain among a people who store up a year's provision and certainty weakens?" By Allah, we had not moved or gone until it was revealed: "And how many a creature carries not its own provision; Allah provides for it and for you, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has not commanded me to hoard the world or follow desires. Whoever hoards it seeking a lasting life, verily life is in the hand of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Indeed, I do not hoard a dinar or a dirham, nor do I store provision for tomorrow."
