وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي زَكَرِيَّا الْكُوفِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ
نَهَى رَجُلًا عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ وَأَوْصَاهُ بِثَلَاثٍ، فَأَمَّا الَّتِي نَهَاهُ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ: « لَا تَنْقُضْ عَهْدًا، وَلَا تُعِنْ عَلَى نَقْضِهِ، وَلَا تَبْغِ، فَإِنَّ مَنْ بُغِيَ عَلَيْهِ لَيَنْصُرَنَّهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى، وَإِيَّاكَ وَمَكْرَ السَّيِّئِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ، وَلَهُنَّ مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى طَالِبٌ ». وَأَمَّا الَّتِي أَوْصَاهُ بِهَا: « أَنْ تُكْثِرَ ذِكْرَ الْمَوْتِ ; فَإِنَّهُ يُسَلِّيكَ عَمَّا سِوَاهُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِالدُّعَاءِ ; فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَتَى يُسْتَجَابُ لَكَ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِالشُّكْرِ ; فَإِنَّهُ زِيَادَةٌ ». ثُمَّ قَرَأَ سُفْيَانُ: لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

✧ He forbade a man three things and enjoined upon him three things. As for what he forbade him, he said: «Do not break a covenant, do not help in breaking it, and do not oppress, for whoever is oppressed, Allah Almighty will certainly help him. Beware of the plot of the evil, for the evil plot does not beset except its own people, and for them there is a pursuer from Allah Almighty.» As for what he enjoined upon him: «That you remember death often, for it will console you from everything else; and you must supplicate, for you do not know when you will be answered; and you must be grateful, for it is increase.» Then Sufyān recited: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you."
