✧ The Dislike of Calling It al-'Atamah

قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الطَّائِفِ، عَنْ غَيْلَانَ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ؓ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

« لَا يَغْلِبَنَّكُمُ الْأَعْرَابُ عَلَى اسْمِ [صَلَاتِكُمْ]، فَإِنَّهَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: الْعِشَاءُ، قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: وَمِنْ بَعْدِ صَلاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ثَلاثُ عَوْرَاتٍ لَكُمْ وَإِنَّمَا تُسَمِّيهَا الْأَعْرَابُ الْعَتَمَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ إِبِلِهِمْ وَحِلَابِهَا

✧ Do not let the Bedouins overcome you regarding the name of [your prayer], for in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, it is called 'Isha'. Allah, the Exalted, said: 'And after the 'Isha' prayer, there are three times of privacy for you.' The Bedouins call it 'Atamah' only because of their camels and their milking.
