✧ I asked Anas b. Malik ؓ, saying: Tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ that he used to persist in, for it has reached me that he delayed and advanced, but the prayer that he used to persist in is as if I were looking at it. He said: (The Messenger of God ﷺ used to pray the noon prayer when the sun had declined; if it was summer he would cool it down. He used to pray the afternoon prayer while the sun was white and clear. He used to pray the sunset prayer when the disk of the sun had disappeared, and he would leave while the light of the star could not be seen. He used to delay the last evening prayer until, if he feared sleeping, he said: “O Bilal, give the adhan.” And I heard him ﷺ say: “Were it not that my community would sleep through it, it would please me to place it in the third of the night or half the night.” We used to leave the dawn prayer while we could see the light of the stars.)
