al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2930

✧ Expiation for illness, reward of the sick, and that the believer is afflicted so his reward may increase

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ أَبِي الْمُسَاوِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

« مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَمْرَضُ مَرَضًا إِلَّا أَمَرَ اللهُ حَافِظَيْهِ أَنَّ مَا عَمِلَ مِنْ سَيِّئَةٍ فَلَا يَكْتُبْهَا، وَمَا عَمِلَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ أَنْ يَكْتُبَهَا عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ، وَأَنْ يَكْتُبَ لَهُ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا كَانَ يَعْمَلُ وَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ

✧ "There is no servant who becomes ill with an illness except that Allah commands his two guardian angels: 'Whatever evil deed he performs, do not write it down; and whatever good deed he performs, write it as ten good deeds. And write for him [the reward of] the deeds he used to do when he was healthy, even if he does not perform them.'"
