al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2926

✧ Expiation for illness, reward of the sick, and that the believer is afflicted so his reward may increase

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

« إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكُونُ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ تَعَالَى الْمَنْزِلَةُ فَمَا يَبْلُغُهَا بِعَمَلٍ، فَمَا يَزَالُ يَبْتَلِيهِ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ حَتَّى يُبَلِّغَهُ إِيَّاهَا

Translation

✧ "A man may have a station with Allah Most High that he does not attain through any deed. He remains afflicted with what he dislikes until He causes him to attain it."
