✧ I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he smiled. We said: “O Messenger of Allah, what made you smile?” He said: “I marvel at the believer and his distress at illness. If he knew what he has in illness, he would love to remain ill until he meets his Lord.” Then he smiled a second time, raised his head to the sky, and looked at it. They said: “What made you smile, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “I marvel at two angels who descended from the sky seeking a believer in his prayer place where he used to pray, but they did not find him. They ascended to Allah Almighty and said: ‘O Lord, Your servant so-and-so, we used to record for him such-and-such deeds every day, but You have detained him in Your bonds,’ meaning illness. Allah Almighty said to them: ‘Record for My servant the like of what he used to do every day and night, and do not reduce anything from it. He shall have the reward of what he did in addition to the reward for what I have detained him with.’”
