✧ I entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while his hand was in mine. He came upon a man of shabby appearance and said: “O Abu so-and-so, what has brought you to the state I see?” He said: “Sickness and harm, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Shall I not teach you some words by which Allah may remove from you sickness and harm?” He said: “No, it would not please me to have them even if I had been present with you at Badr and Uhud.” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed, then said: “Would the people of Badr and the people of Uhud attain what the contented poor person attains?” Abu Hurayrah ؓ said: I said, “Teach me, O Messenger of Allah.” He ﷺ said: “Say, O Abu Hurayrah: ‘I have put my trust in the Ever-Living who does not die. Praise be to Allah who has not taken a son, and who has no partner in dominion’—the verse. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon me after my condition had improved and said: ‘Mahyam?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have not ceased saying the words you taught me.’”
