✧ The rebuke of honoring one of the two disputants and of disputing without right

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ:
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَنَزَلَ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ ؓ، فَأَضَافَهُ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَاصِمَ. فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ ؓ: تَحَوَّلْ فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَضِيفَ الْخَصْمَ إِلَّا وَمَعَهُ خَصْمُهُ.
Translation

✧ A man came and stayed with Ali ؓ, and he hosted him. The man said: "I want to engage in a dispute." Ali ؓ said to him: "Move away, for the Prophet ﷺ forbade us to host a litigant unless his opponent is with him."
