✧ What is lawful for the governor from the subjects' wealth

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، ثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ:

كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُخَالِطُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ: عِيَاضٌ فَأَهْدَى لَهُ هَدِيَّةً فَقَالَ: " أَسْلَمْتَ ؟ ". قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ ﷺ: إِنَّهُ لَا يَحِلُّ لَنَا زَبَدُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَعْنِي رِفْدَهُمْ

Translation

✧ There was a man who used to associate with the Prophet ﷺ in the pre-Islamic era, called 'Iyad. He gave him a gift, and the Prophet said: "Have you embraced Islam?" He said: No. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The froth of the polytheists is not lawful for us," meaning their gifts.
