✧ Jizya and truce

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ؓ، قَالَ:

كَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى مَجُوسِ هَجَرَ يَعْرِضُ الْإِسْلَامَ، فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ قَبِلَ مِنْهُ، وَمَنْ أَبَى ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ الْجِزْيَةَ، عَلَى أَنْ لَا يُنْكَحَ لَهُمُ امْرَأَةٌ، وَلَا تُؤْكَلَ لَهُمْ ذَبِيحَةٌ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ wrote to the Magians of Hajar, offering them Islam: whoever accepted Islam, it would be accepted from him, and whoever refused, the jizya would be imposed upon him, on condition that no woman of theirs be married and no animal slaughtered by them be eaten.
