✧ There Is No Jihad on Women

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقُرَشِيُّ، قَالَ:

إِنَّ أُمَّ كَبْشَةَ، امْرَأَةً مِنْ عُرَنَةَ - عُرَنَةَ قُضَاعَةَ - قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ائْذَنْ لِي أَنْ أَخْرُجَ فِي جَيْشِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: لَا. قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي لَيْسَ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ، إِنَّمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُدَاوِيَ الْجَرْحَى وَالْمَرِيضَ - أَوْ: أَسْقِيَ الْمَرِيضَ - قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَوْلَا أَنْ تَكُونَ سُنَّةً، وَأَنَّ فُلَانَةَ خَرَجَتْ لَأَذِنْتُ لَكِ وَلَكِنِ اجْلِسِي

Translation

✧ Umm Kabshah, a woman from 'Uraynah — 'Uraynah of Quda'ah — said: 'O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go out with such-and-such army?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'No.' She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not intend to fight; I only intend to treat the wounded and the sick — or: to give water to the sick.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Were it not that it would become a sunnah, and that so-and-so went out, I would have permitted you, but sit down.'
