✧ A slave was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said: “This one has stolen,” and evidence was established against him, and his stolen property was found with him. The Prophet ﷺ said: “This is a slave belonging to orphans who have no one else besides him,” so he let him go. Then he was brought a second time, and a third, and a fourth, and he let him go four times. Then he was brought a fifth time, and he cut off his hand. Then he was brought a sixth time, and he cut off his foot. Then a seventh time, and he cut off his hand. Then an eighth time, and he cut off his foot. Then al-Harith said: “Four for four; he pardoned him four times and punished him four times.”
