✧ Ila'

قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَبُو قُدَامَةَ، ثَنَا عَامِرٌ الْأَحْوَلُ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ، قَالَ:

« كَانَ إِيلَاءُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ السَّنَةَ وَالسَّنَتَيْنِ، وَأَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ. فَوَقَّتَ اللهُ تَعَالَى لَهُمْ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ، فَمَنْ كَانَ إِيلَاؤُهُ أَقَلَّ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ فَلَيْسَ بِإِيلَاءٍ ». وَقَالَ عَطَاءٌ: وَإِنْ آلَى مِنْهَا، وَهِيَ فِي بَيْتِ أَهْلِهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يُؤْتَى بِهَا - فَلَيْسَ بِإِيلَاءٍ

✧ 'The ila' of the Jahiliyyah was for a year, two years, or more than that. Allah the Exalted set a time limit for them of four months, so whoever's ila' is less than four months is not ila'.' And 'Ata' said: 'If he makes ila' from her while she is in her family's house before she is brought to him, it is not ila'.'
