✧ The Creditor Has the Right to Speak, and the Virtue of One Who Pays His Debt

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ، عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ -:

مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ صَدَقَةٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ: مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلُ الَّذِي أَنْظَرَهُ. قَالَ بُرَيْدَةُ ؓ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ يُؤْتَى بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ صَدَقَةً قَبْلَ الْأَجَلِ، وَيُؤْتَى بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلَ الَّذِي أَنْظَرَهُ صَدَقَةً بَعْدَ الْأَجَلِ

Translation

✧ Whoever grants respite to one in difficulty, for him is a charity for every day. Then after that he said: 'Whoever grants respite to one in difficulty, for him for every day is the like of what he granted respite for.' Buraydah ؓ said: 'I said: O Messenger of God, what is this?' He said: 'A charity is brought for him every day before the term, and after the term a charity is brought for him every day equal to what he granted respite for.'
