✧ We were in need, so I took my wife's two anklets in the year in which Abu Bakr ؓ was appointed caliph. Abu Bakr ؓ met me and said: "What is this?" I said: "The tribe is in need of spending money." He said: "I have silver coins with which I want silver." He called for a scale and placed the two anklets in one pan and the silver coins in the other. The two anklets outweighed by about a daniq, so he cut it off. I said: "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, it is lawful for you!" He said: "O Abu Rafi', if you make it lawful, Allah Almighty will not make it lawful. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Gold for gold, weight for weight, and silver for silver, weight for weight; the one who gives extra and the one who takes extra are in the Fire.'"
