✧ He sat with me while I was in the mosque of Basra in the time of al-Hajjaj b. Yusuf, and in his hand was a staff and a scroll he was carrying. He mentioned a hadith in which: I entered Madinah with my father when I was a young boy, with camels we had brought to Madinah to sell. He said: Talhah b. Ubaydillah ؓ was a friend of my father, so we stayed with him. My father said: O Abu Muhammad, come out with us and sell our camels for us, for we have no knowledge of this market. He said: As for me selling for you, no; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade a townsman from selling for a bedouin. But I will go out with you both to the market, and if I approve of a man to trade with you, I will instruct you to sell to him. He said: He came out with us and sat in a corner of the market, and men bargained with us for our camels. When a man offered us what satisfied us, we went to him and sought his advice about selling. He said: Sell to him, for I am satisfied with his trustworthiness and his prayer. He said: So we sold to him and took what was ours.
