✧ I and some women from the Ansar entered upon Asma’ bint Makhrabah, the mother of Abu Jahl. Her son ‘Abdullah b. Abi Rabi’ah used to send her perfume from Yemen, and she would sell it until the time of the soldiers' stipend. She said: So I bought from her, and she weighed for me, and I put it in bottles like others did. Then she said to me: "Write down my right against you." So I said — meaning to the scribe — "Write it against al-Rubayyi‘ bint Mu‘awwidh b. ‘Afra’." She said: "You are like the daughter of the killer of his master." I said: "By Allah, I am not the daughter of the killer of his master; rather I am the daughter of the killer of his slave." She said: "By Allah, I will never sell you anything ever." I said: "And by Allah, I will never buy from you anything ever." And by Allah, it was not perfume or fragrance there. Then she said: "By Allah, O my son, I have never smelled a perfume more fragrant than it. But when she said what she said, I got angry and I said what I said."
