✧ The Permission to Weep for the Deceased

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ:

إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ بُكِيَ عَلَيْهِ، فَخَرَجَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ إِلَى الرِّجَالِ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ شَأْنِ أُولَاءِ، إِنَّهُنَّ حَدِيثَاتُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُنْضَحُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَمْرُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَيِّ

✧ When 'Abdullah b. Abi Bakr ؓ died, he was wept over. Abu Bakr ؓ went out to the men and said: 'I apologize to you regarding these women. They are recently out of the era of ignorance. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The deceased is showered with burning coals because of the weeping of the living."'
