حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ. فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَتْ: وَهِلَ - تَعْنِي: ابْنَ عُمَرَ - إِنَّمَا مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى قَبْرٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ صَاحِبَ هَذَا الْقَبْرِ لَيُعَذَّبُ وَأَهْلُهُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: وَلا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى

Translation

✧ Indeed, the dead is punished by the weeping of his family over him. I mentioned that to Aisha, and she said: He erred—meaning Ibn Umar—the Messenger of God ﷺ only passed by a grave and said: The occupant of this grave is being punished while his family weep over him. Then she recited this verse: And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.
