حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جُلَاسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الشَّمَّاخِ وَكَانَ ابْنَ أَخِي سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ ؓ قَالَ:

مَاتَ ابْنٌ لِسَمُرَةَ قَدْ سَعَى، فَسَمِعَ بُكَاءً، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا الْبُكَاءُ ؟ قَالُوا: عَلَى فُلَانٍ، فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَدَعَا بِطَسْتٍ، أَوْ بِعُسٍّ، فَغُسِّلَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ كُفِّنَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِمَوْلًى لَهُ: يَا فُلَانُ، اذْهَبْ إِلَى حُفْرَتِهِ، فَإِذَا وَضَعْتَهُ فَقُلْ: بِاسْمِ اللهِ، وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَطْلِقْ عُقَدَ رَأْسِهِ وَعُقَدَ رِجْلَيْهِ، وَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ، وَلَا تَفْتِنَّا بَعْدَهُ

Translation

✧ A son of Samurah who had run died, and he heard weeping. He said: 'What is this weeping?' They said: 'For so-and-so.' He forbade them from that, then called for a basin or a large cup and washed him before him, then shrouded him before him. Then he said to a servant of his: 'O so-and-so, go to his grave, and when you place him down, say: In the name of God and upon the Sunnah of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then untie the knots of his head and the knots of his feet, and say: O God, do not deprive us of his reward and do not test us after him.'
