أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ
«اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا اللهُمَّ إِنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا وَإِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ» فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ وَلَدِهِ يَا أَبَتِي أَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ قَالَ بَلْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَقُولُ هَذَا
Translation

✧ "O Allah, You created my soul and You take it in death. To You belong its death and its life. O Allah, if You take it in death, then forgive it, and if You give it life, then protect it. O Allah, I ask You for well-being." A man from his children said to him: "O my father, did Umar used to say this?" He said: "Rather, one better than Umar used to say this."
