Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fasting is a protection for you, so when you are fasting, do not behave obscenely or foolishly, and if any one argues with you or abuses you, say, 'I am fasting. I am fasting.' "

machine translationThere was disagreement about it regarding Mālik b. Anas. ʿAbdullāh b. Buzayʿ narrated it from Rawḥ b. al-Qāsim, from Mālik b. Anas, from al-Zuhrī, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, but he erred in saying "al-Zuhrī". The correct version is from Mālik, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah. Likewise al-Qaʿnabī and the transmitters of the Muwaṭṭaʾ narrated it from Mālik. And ʿAbdullāh b. Buzayʿ is lenient in hadith (layyin al-ḥadīth), not abandoned (matrūk).
