What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationThe hadith is the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ from Abū Saʿīd.

  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationMālik narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd from Abū Saʿīd, which comes after this one, and it is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).

machine translationHe claimed that Ibn Isḥāq did not retain it accurately.

  • Ibn ʿAsākir

machine translationSomeone other than ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated it from al-Zuhrī from ʿAṭāʾ, and that is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationTwo trustworthy narrators agreed on ʿĀmir b. Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ from his father, and that is more likely.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationI asked my father about a hadith narrated by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Prophet ﷺ said: "When the muʾadhdhin says it, then say the like of what he says." He said: A group narrated it, Mālik and others, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ, and this is more likely.

machine translationThe chain of transmission of Abū Hurayrah is defective (maʿlūl).

machine translationThe narration of Mālik is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).

machine translationʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq narrated it thus from al-Zuhrī, from Ibn al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah, but he did not preserve its chain accurately. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān has other hadiths besides what I mentioned, including hadiths from al-Zuhrī and from other shaykhs of his. In his hadith there is some that is rejected (munkar) and in which he is not corroborated.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIsḥāq b. Ibrāhīm al-Ḥunaynī narrated it from Mālik, from Zayd b. Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd, but he erred in this regarding Mālik. The correct version is from Mālik, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd al-Laythī, from Abū Saʿīd. Likewise the narrators of the Muwaṭṭaʾ and the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from Mālik, from al-Zuhrī. Likewise Yūnus and Maʿmar narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd, from Abū Saʿīd. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq, who is ʿAbbād, contradicted them and narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah. Saʿīd is not sound in it, and the correct version is what we have mentioned.

machine translation[It has corroborating narrations (shawāhid).]
