What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn Ḥazm

machine translationIn its chain is Ḥassān b. Bilāl, who is unknown (majhūl); moreover, no meeting between him and ʿAmmār is known.

  • Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah

machine translationʿAbd al-Karīm did not hear the hadith of interlacing (the fingers and beard) from Ḥassān.

  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationEither al-Ḥumaydī became confused (ikhtalaṭa), or the one from whom he narrated confused it.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationHad it been sound (ṣaḥīḥ), it would have been in the compiled works of Ibn Abī ʿArūbah; and Ibn ʿUyaynah did not mention in this hadith, meaning, hearing it directly.

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

    machine translationDefective (maʿlūl).

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationNo one narrated this except Ibn ʿUyaynah from Ibn Abī ʿArūbah. I said: It is sound (ṣaḥīḥ). He said: Had it been sound, it would have been in the compiled works of Ibn Abī ʿArūbah, and Ibn ʿUyaynah did not mention the report in this hadith. This also is among the things that weaken it.
