machine translationSaʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah narrates it from Qatādah, and there is disagreement about it from him. It was narrated from Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh al-Razī, from Khālid b. al-Ḥārith, from Shuʿbah, from Qatādah, from Khallās, from Abū Rāfiʿ, from Abū Hurayrah. ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī differed from them both and narrated it from Khālid b. al-Ḥārith, from Saʿīd, from Qatādah, and this is the correct (ṣawāb) version. Ismāʿīl b. Saʿīd al-Kisāʾī narrated it from Rawḥ, from Shuʿbah, from Qatādah, from Khallās, from Abū Hurayrah, and I did not see Abū Rāfiʿ in it. That is an error (wahm) in two places: in omitting Abū Rāfiʿ and in saying Shuʿbah, for Rawḥ only narrated it from Saʿīd. Likewise Yazīd b. Zurayʿ, ʿAmr b. Muḥammad b. Abī Razīn, Isḥāq al-Azraq and ʿAbbād b. Wahīb narrated it from Saʿīd, and that is the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) version. It was also narrated from Makkī b. Ibrāhīm, from Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah, from Khallās b. ʿAmr, from Abū Hurayrah, without mentioning Abū Rāfiʿ. Perhaps it dropped out for some of those who narrated it from him, because Makkī was one of the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ).
