✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque one day — Rifa'ah said: and we were with him — a man like a bedouin came and prayed, and he made his prayer brief. Then he left and greeted the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: “And upon you. Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” He went back and prayed, then came and greeted the Prophet ﷺ. He responded to him and said: “Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” He did that two or three times, each time coming to the Prophet ﷺ and greeting him, and he would say: “And upon you. Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” The people became afraid and it weighed heavily on them that whoever made his prayer brief had not prayed. The man said at the end of that: Show me or teach me, for I am only human and I err and make mistakes. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Yes. When you stand for prayer, perform wudu' as Allah commanded you, then say the tashahhud, then stand, then say takbir. If you have Qur'an with you, recite it; otherwise, praise Allah, magnify Him, and declare His oneness. Then bow and remain calm in bowing, then straighten up standing, then prostrate and remain calm in prostration, then sit and remain calm sitting, then stand. If you do that, your prayer is complete, and if you diminish anything from it, you diminish from your prayer.” He said: This was easier for them than the first, that whoever diminished anything from that diminished from his prayer but it did not go away entirely.
