✧ 'Abdullah b. Rabah narrated to the people in the congregational mosque, and among the people was 'Imran b. Husayn. 'Imran said: Who is the young man? He said: A man from the Ansar. 'Imran said: The people are more knowledgeable of their hadith. Watch how you narrate, for I was the seventh of seven that night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. 'Imran said: I did not think anyone besides me remained who memorized this hadith. He said: I heard Abu Qatadah say: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. He said: "If you do not reach water by tomorrow, you will be thirsty." So the swift ones among the people went ahead. Abu Qatadah said: I stayed close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that night. He dozed and slept, so I propped him up. Then he dozed again and leaned, so I propped him up. Then he dozed and leaned the other way until he was about to fall off, so he woke up and said: "Who is the man?" I said: Abu Qatadah. [He said]: "How long has your journey been?" I said: Since the night. He said: "May Allah preserve you as you preserved His Prophet." Then he said: "Would that we halts." He leaned toward a tree and I leaned with him. He said: "Do you see anyone?" I said: Yes, this is a rider, [this is a rider,] these are two riders, these are three, until we became seven. He said: "Guard for us our prayer so that we do not sleep past the Fajr prayer." Then sleep fell upon their ears until the heat of the sun woke them. They got up and led their mounts a little, then dismounted. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do you have water with you?" I said: Yes, I have a small water vessel with water in it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Bring it." So I brought it to him. He said: "Pour from it, pour from it." So we performed ablution, and a gulp remained in it. He said: "Keep it safe, O Abu Qatadah, for there is news regarding this." Then Bilal gave the call to prayer, and they prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr, then they prayed Fajr, then they mounted. Some of them said to others: We missed our prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What are you saying? If it is something of your worldly affair, then it is your concern, and if it is something of your religious affair, then it is to me." We said: O Messenger of Allah, we missed our prayer. He said: "There is no negligence in sleep; negligence is only in wakefulness. If one of you forgets his prayer, let him pray it when he remembers it, and the next day at its time."
