حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ - يَعْنِي الْحَنَفِيَّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ:

أَنَّ بِلَالًا كَانَ يَقُولُ أَوَّلَ مَا أَذَّنَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ. فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: قُلْ فِي أَثَرِهَا: أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: قُلْ كَمَا أَمَرَكَ عُمَرُ

Translation

✧ Bilal used to say at the beginning of his call: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, come to prayer.” Umar said to him, “Say after it: I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Say as Umar ordered you.”
