✧ A jar of mine in which I would steep nabīdh and drink from it. If I prolonged sitting with the people, I feared I would be disgraced by its sweetness. He said: The delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: Welcome to the delegation, without disgrace and without regret. They said: O Messenger of God ﷺ, between us and you are the polytheists of Muḍar, and we can only reach you in the sacred months. So tell us comprehensive matters which, if one of us acts upon them, he will enter Paradise by them, and we call to it those behind us. He said: "I command you with four and I forbid you from four: faith in God. Do you know what faith in God is?" They said: God and His Messenger know best. He said: "The testimony that there is no god but God, the establishment of prayer, the giving of zakāh, the fast of Ramadan, and that you give a fifth of the spoils. And I forbid you from nabīdh in the gourd, the hollowed stump, the green jar, and the pitch-sealed vessel."
