✧ The prohibition of fasting on the Day of Fitr and the Day of Sacrifice

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، وَقَالَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ: مَوْلَى ابْنِ أَزْهَرَ، قَالَ:

شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ، أَمَّا يَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ فَفِطْرُكُمْ مِنْ صِيَامِكُمْ، وَأَمَّا يَوْمُ الْأَضْحَى، فَتَأْكُلُونَ فِيهِ مِنْ لَحْمِ نُسُكِكُمْ

✧ I attended the festival with ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, and he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days. As for the Day of Fiṭr, it is your breaking fast from your fasting; and as for the Day of Sacrifice, you eat on it from the meat of your sacrifices.
