✧ Permissibility for the one in ihram to wash his head

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَسْلَمَ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:
امْتَرَى الْمِسْوَرُ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ، وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُمَا بِالْعَرْجِ فِي غَسْلِ الْمُحْرِمِ رَأْسَهُ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: فِي غَسْلِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَأْسَهُ، فَأَرْسَلُونِي إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ أَسْأَلُهُ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِالْعَرْجِ، وَهُوَ يَغْتَسِلُ بَيْنَ قَرْنَيِ الْبِئْرِ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي ضَمَّ الثَّوْبَ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ حَتَّى كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ ابْنَ أَخِيكَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ أَسْأَلُكَ: كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَغْسِلُ رَأْسَهُ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ ؟ فَأَمَرَ بِدَلْوٍ فَصَبَّ، فَأَفَاضَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، فَأَقْبَلَ بِيَدَيْهِ وَأَدْبَرَ بِهِمَا فِي رَأْسِهِ، وَقَالَ: هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَفْعَلُ، قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمِسْوَرُ: لَا أُمَارِيكَ فِي شَيْءٍ بَعْدَهَا أَبَدًا

✧ Al-Miswar b. Makhramah and Ibn Abbas disagreed while they were at al-Arj about washing the head of a muhrim — and he said once: about the Prophet ﷺ washing his head. So they sent me to Abu Ayyub to ask him. I came to him at al-Arj while he was bathing between the two posts of the well. I greeted him, and when he saw me, he pulled his garment to his chest until it seemed I could see his chest. I said: "Your nephew Abdullah b. Abbas sent me to ask you: How did you see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wash his head while he was in ihram?" He ordered a bucket, so it was poured, and he poured it over his head. Then he brought his hands forward and back over his head, and said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do." He (the narrator) said: Then I came to Ibn Abbas and informed him, and al-Miswar said to him: "I will never dispute with you about anything after this."
