حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ:

أَشْرَفَ عَلَيْهِمْ، يَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ، هَلْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنِّي اشْتَرَيْتُ رُومَةَ مِنْ مَالِي يُسْتَعْذَبُ مِنْهَا، وَجَعَلْتُ رِشَائِي فِيهَا كَرِشَاءِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ؟ فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: " فَعَلَامَ تَمْنَعُونِي أَشْرَبَ مِنْهَا حَتَّى أُفْطِرَ عَلَى مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ ؟ "

✧ He looked over them, meaning Uthman b. Affan, and said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that I bought the well of Rumah from my own wealth so that its water could be made sweet, and I made my share in it like the share of any Muslim man? They said: Yes. He said: Then why do you prevent me from drinking from it until I break my fast with sea water?
