✧ We used to give Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a Sa' of food, or a Sa' of dried yoghurt, or a Sa' of dates, or a Sa' of raisins, or a Sa' of barley. We continued to give it until Mu'awiyah came to us from Syria as a pilgrim or as a performer of 'Umrah — and he was then the caliph — and he addressed the people from the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Then he mentioned Zakat al-Fitr and said: "Indeed, I think that two Mudds of Syrian wheat are equivalent to a Sa' of dates." So he was the first to remind the people of the two Mudds at that time.
