✧ The collective chapters of the charity of the breaking of the fast in Ramadan

حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ:

لَمْ نَزَلْ نُخْرِجُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ، وَصَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ، وَصَاعًا مِنْ أَقِطٍ، فَلَمْ تَزَلْ حَتَّى كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ، فَقَالَ: أَرَى أَنَّ صَاعًا مِنْ سَمْرَاءِ الشَّامِ تَعْدِلُ صَاعَيْ تَمْرٍ، فَأَخَذَ بِهِ النَّاسُ

Translation

✧ We continued to give during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a Sa' of dates, a Sa' of barley, and a Sa' of dried yoghurt. This continued until Mu'awiyah came, and he said: "I think that a Sa' of Syrian wheat is equivalent to two Sa's of dates." So the people adopted that.
