✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was one day sitting out in the open before the people, a man came to him walking and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is faith?" He said: "To believe in Allah, His angels, His Book, the meeting with Him, and His messengers, and to believe in the final resurrection." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?" He said: "To worship Allah and not associate anything with Him, to establish the prayer, to give the obligatory zakat, and to fast Ramadan." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is ihsan?" He said: "To worship Allah as if you see Him; for if you do not see Him, He sees you." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, when is the Hour?" He said: "The one asked about it is not more knowledgeable than the questioner, but I will tell you about its signs: when the slave woman gives birth to her mistress" – meaning the concubines – "for that is one of its signs; and when the shepherds of black camels compete in constructing tall buildings, for that is one of its signs; and when the barefoot naked ones become heads of the people, for that is one of its signs – among five things that no one knows except Allah." Then he recited: "Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour..." to the end of the surah. Then the man turned away, and the Prophet ﷺ said: "This is Jibril, teaching the people their religion."
