حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْأَعْرَجِ، قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ رِدَاءَهُ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ: اعْدُدْ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ يَوْمَ التَّاسِعِ مِنَ الْمُحَرَّمِ فَاصْبِحْ صَائِمًا، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَكَذَاكَ كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ يَصُومُ ؟ قَالَ: كَذَاكَ كَانَ يَصُومُ
Translation

✧ I asked Ibn Abbas while he was in the Sacred Mosque reclining on his cloak, and I asked him about fasting Ashura. He said: Count, and when you wake on the morning of the ninth of Muharram, wake fasting. He said: I said: Is that how Muhammad ﷺ used to fast? He said: That is how he used to fast.
