✧ We were at a settlement, and riders would pass by us returning from the Prophet ﷺ, so I would come close to them and listen until I memorized Quran. He said: The people were waiting for the conquest of Makkah for their Islam. When it was conquered, a man would come to him and say: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am the delegate of Banu So-and-so, and I have come to you with their Islam.' My father went with the Islam of his people. When he returned, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Put forward the one with the most Quran among you.' He said: They looked, and I was near a large tent. Al-Dawraqi said: a large tent. Abu Hashim said: a tent. They both said: They did not find anyone among them with more Quran than me, so they put me forward while I was a boy. I led them and had a cloak of mine; when I bowed or prostrated, my private parts would show. When we finished praying, an old woman of the age of ignorance would say to us: 'Cover from us the buttocks of your reciter.' He said: They cut a shirt for me, I think he said: from the cloth of the two seas, and he mentioned that he rejoiced greatly over it. Al-Dawraqi said: 'Let the one with the most Quran among you lead you.'
