✧ We used to prevent our adolescent girls from going out. Then a woman arrived and stayed at the palace of Banu Khalaf, and she narrated that her sister was married to a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who had participated in twelve battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. My sister accompanied him in six battles. She said: "We used to treat the wounded and tend to the sick." My sister asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Is there any blame on one of us if she does not have a jilbab and therefore does not go out?" He said: "Let her companion clothe her from her jilbab, and let her witness the good and the supplication of the believers." When Umm 'Atiyyah arrived, I asked her—or we asked her—: "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say such-and-such?" She would not mention the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without saying: "May my father be sacrificed for him." She said: "Yes, may my father be sacrificed for him. He said: 'Let the adolescent girls of seclusion, or the adolescent girls and those of seclusion, and the menstruating women go out and witness the good and the supplication of the believers, and let the menstruating woman keep away from the prayer place.'" I said to Umm 'Atiyyah: "The menstruating woman?" She said: "Does she not witness 'Arafah, and witness such-and-such, and witness such-and-such?"
