✧ He witnessed a sermon one day by Samurah b. Jundub. He mentioned in his sermon that Samurah b. Jundub said: 'One day, while I and a boy from the Ansar were shooting at a target of ours, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was at the height of two or three spears in the eyes of the beholders from the horizon, it became black until it was like a colocynth. One of us said to his companion: Come with us to the mosque. By Allah, something will happen regarding this sun for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his community. We went to the mosque, and he was outside. We met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he came out to the people.' He said: 'He advanced and led us in prayer with the longest standing he ever led us in any prayer, no sound being heard from him. Then he bowed with the longest bowing he ever bowed with us in any prayer, no sound being heard from him. Then he prostrated with the longest prostration he ever prostrated with us in any prayer, no sound being heard from him.' He said: 'Then he did the same in the second rak'ah.' He said: 'The clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rak'ah.' He said: 'He then said the salam, praised Allah, extolled Him, bore witness that there is no deity but Allah, and bore witness that he is His servant and Messenger. Then he said: O people, I am only a human messenger of Allah. I remind you by Allah, if you know that I have fallen short in conveying any of the messages of my Lord, then tell me so that I may convey the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if you know that I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then inform me.' He said: 'The people stood and said: We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, advised your community, and fulfilled what was upon you.' He said: 'Then they fell silent.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: To proceed: certain men claim that the eclipse of this sun, the eclipse of this moon, and the disappearance of these stars from their rising places are due to the death of great men among the people of the earth. They have lied. Rather, they are signs among the signs of Allah, by which He tests His servants, to see who among them will turn in repentance. By Allah, since I stood to pray, I have seen what you will encounter in this world and the Hereafter. By Allah, the Hour will not come until thirty liars appear, the last of whom is the one-eyed Dajjal, with his left eye obliterated, as if it were the eye of Abu Yahya — or Tayha — an old man from the Ansar. When he emerges, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, accepts him, and follows him, no righteous deed he has done before will benefit him. And whoever disbelieves in him and rejects him, he will not be punished for any of his previous deeds. He will appear over the entire earth except the Sanctuary and Jerusalem. He will besiege the believers in Jerusalem, and they will be shaken with a severe earthquake.' He said: 'Then Allah will defeat him and his armies, until the base of a wall and the root of a tree will call out: O believer, here is a disbeliever hiding behind me, come and kill him.' He said: 'That will not happen until you see matters whose importance grows in your minds, and you ask among yourselves whether your Prophet mentioned any of them to you, and until mountains move from their places after that seizure.' And he gestured with his hand.
