✧ He asked Abu Hurayrah: "Did you pray the prayer of fear with the Prophet ﷺ?" Abu Hurayrah said: "Yes." He said: "When?" He said: "It was the year of the expedition of Najd. The Messenger of God ﷺ stood for the 'Asr prayer, and a group stood with him and another group facing the enemy, their backs to the qiblah. The Messenger of God ﷺ said the takbir, and they all said the takbir with him—those who were with him and those who were facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ bowed one rak'ah, and the group that was next to him bowed with him. Then he prostrated, and the group that was next to him prostrated, while the others remained standing facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ stood up, and the group that was next to him stood up and went to the enemy and faced them. The group that had been facing the enemy came forward, and they bowed and prostrated while the Messenger of God ﷺ remained standing as he was. Then they stood up, and the Messenger of God ﷺ bowed another rak'ah, and they bowed with him [and he prostrated] and they prostrated with him. Then the group that had been facing the enemy came forward, and they bowed and prostrated while the Messenger of God ﷺ and those with him were sitting. Then came the taslim, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said the taslim, and they all said the taslim. So the Messenger of God ﷺ had two rak'ahs, and each man of the two groups had two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs."

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet ﷺ concerning the fear prayer and how they prayed. He said: There is disagreement about it on the authority of ʿUrwah. Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr narrated it from ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah; Yūnus b. Bukayr said it from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq from Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr. Abū al-Aswad Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān contradicted him, narrating it from ʿUrwah from Marwān b. al-Ḥakam from Abū Hurayrah, and that is the closer to correct. It was also said, from Abū al-Aswad from ʿUrwah from Abū Hurayrah, that Marwān asked Abū Hurayrah. And it was said, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq from Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. al-Zubayr from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, may God be pleased with her.
