Abū Sufyān's message to the Messenger conveyed by a caravan

Translation

✧ [The message of Abū Sufyān to the Messenger on the tongue of a caravan] A caravan from ʿAbd al-Qays passed by him, and he said: "Where do you intend to go?" They said: "We intend to go to Madinah." He said: "And why?" They said: "We intend to get provisions." He said: "Would you convey a message from me to Muḥammad, which I shall send you with to him, and I shall load for you these raisins tomorrow at ʿUkāẓ when you arrive there?" They said: "Yes." He said: "When you meet him, tell him that we have resolved to march against him and his companions to extirpate the remnant of them." The caravan passed by the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was at Ḥamrāʾ al-Asad, and they told him what Abū Sufyān had said. He said: "Sufficient for us is God, and He is the best disposer of affairs."
