The Messenger's departure in pursuit of the enemy to intimidate them

✧ [An example of the Muslims' self-sacrifice in support of the Messenger] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Khārija b. Zayd b. Thābit related to me, from Abū al-Sāʾib, the mawlā of ʿĀʾisha bt. ʿUthmān: A man from the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ, of the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal, who was present at Uḥud with the Messenger of God, said: I was present at Uḥud with the Messenger of God ﷺ, I and a brother of mine, and we returned wounded. When the Messenger of God's ﷺ muezzin called for going out in pursuit of the enemy, I said to my brother—or he said to me—'Will a raid with the Messenger of God ﷺ elude us? By God, we have no mount to ride, and none of us is anything but severely wounded.' So we went out with the Messenger of God ﷺ. I was the lighter in wound, so when he was overcome, I carried him for a stretch, and he walked for a stretch, until we reached what the Muslims reached.
