The mutilation of Ḥamza after his death

Translation

✧ [What was revealed concerning the prohibition of mutilation] Ibn Isḥāq said: Buraydah b. Sufyān b. Farwah al-Aslamī related to me, from Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī, and one whom I do not suspect related to me, from Ibn ʿAbbās: that God, mighty and majestic be He, revealed concerning that, from the saying of the Messenger of God ﷺ and the saying of his companions: “And if you punish, punish with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you endure patiently, verily it is better for the patient. And endure patiently; your patience is only by God. And do not grieve over them, and do not be in distress over what they plot” (Q 16:126–127). So the Messenger of God ﷺ pardoned, endured patiently, and forbade mutilation. Ibn Isḥāq said: Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl related to me, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah b. Jundub, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ never stood in any place and then left it without commanding us to give charity and forbidding us from mutilation.
