The Messenger's prayer while seated

Translation

✧ [The Messenger's prayer sitting down] Ibn Hishām said: ʿUmar, the freedman of Ghufrah, mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ prayed the noon prayer on the day of Uḥud sitting down because of the wounds that had afflicted him, and the Muslims prayed behind him seated. [The killing of al-Yamān and Ibn Waqsh] Ibn Isḥāq said: The people had fled from the Messenger of God ﷺ until some of them reached al-Munaqqā, short of al-Aʿwaṣ. Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar b. Qatādah related to me, from Maḥmūd b. Labīd, who said: When the Messenger of God ﷺ went out to Uḥud, Ḥusayl b. Jābir—who is al-Yamān, the father of Ḥudhayfah b. al-Yamān—and Thābit b. Waqsh had been left in the strongholds with the women and children. One of them said to his companion, both being old men: What is the matter with you? What are you waiting for? By God, there remains for either of us of his life only the interval between two waterings of a donkey. We are but a skull today or tomorrow. Shall we not take our swords and then join the Messenger of God ﷺ, that perhaps God may grant us martyrdom with the Messenger of God ﷺ? So they took their swords and went out until they entered among the people, without being noticed. As for Thābit b. Waqsh, the polytheists killed him. As for Ḥusayl b. Jābir, the swords of the Muslims fell upon him, and they killed him without recognizing him. Ḥudhayfah said: My father! They said: By God, we did not recognize him—and they spoke the truth. Ḥudhayfah said: May God forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful. The Messenger of God ﷺ wanted to pay his blood-money, but Ḥudhayfah gave his blood-money as alms for the Muslims, and that increased him in goodness in the sight of the Messenger of God ﷺ.
