Abū Sufyān's manner of inciting Quraysh

Translation

✧ Abū Sufyān's method in inciting Quraysh Ibn Isḥāq said: Abū Sufyān said to the banner-bearers of Banū ʿAbd al-Dār, inciting them thereby to fight: O Banū ʿAbd al-Dār, you bore our banner on the day of Badr, and what you saw befell us. People are only assailed from the direction of their banners: when they falter, they falter. Either you suffice us in bearing our banner, or make way between us and it, and we shall suffice you in that. They took offense at him and banded together against him, saying: We shall hand over our banner to you? Tomorrow, when we meet, you will see how we act. That was what Abū Sufyān wanted. Hind and the women with her incite When the people met and drew near one another, Hind bt. ʿUtbah arose among the women who were with her, and they took up tambourines, striking them behind the men and inciting them. Hind said among what she said: Woe to you, Banū ʿAbd al-Dār! Woe to you, defenders of the rear! Strike with every cutting sword! And she said: If you advance, we embrace you, and spread the cushions; Or if you retreat, we part from you, the parting of one who is not loving. The Muslims' watchword The watchword of the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of Uḥud was: "Amit, amit," according to what Ibn Hishām said.
