Translation
✧ On Khindif and her children. Ibn Hishām said: Khindif is the daughter of ʿImrān b. al-Ḥāf b. Quḍāʿah. Ibn Isḥāq said: Mudrikah's name was ʿĀmir, and Ṭābikhah's name was ʿAmr. They assert that the two of them were among camels of theirs, tending them, and they caught game and sat down to cook it, while a raiding party attacked their camels. ʿĀmir said to ʿAmr, “Will you overtake the camels, or cook this game?” ʿAmr said, “Rather, I will cook.” So ʿĀmir caught up with the camels and brought them back. When they returned to their father and told him of their affair, he said to ʿĀmir, “You are Mudrikah (Overtaker),” and he said to ʿAmr, “And you are Ṭābikhah (Cook).” And their mother came out, when the news reached her, hurrying, and he said to her, “Are you takhandafīn (walking with a proud and swinging gait)?” So she was named Khindif. As for Qamaʿah, the genealogists of Muḍar assert that Khuzāʿah are from the offspring of ʿAmr b. Luḥayy b. Qamaʿah b. Ilyās.
