Sirat Ibn Hisham 798

What was revealed concerning Quraysh's delusion and their seeking of judgment

Translation

✧ [The interval between O thou enwrapped one and Badr] Ibn Isḥāq said: Yaḥyā b. ʿAbbād b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Zubayr related to me, from his father ʿAbbād, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: There was only a little between the revelation of “O thou enwrapped one” and the words of God (exalted is He) therein: “And leave Me with the deniers, possessors of comfort, and grant them a brief respite. Verily with Us are fetters and a blazing fire, and food that chokes, and a painful punishment,” until God smote Quraysh with the disaster on the day of Badr. [Ibn Hishām’s explanation of some of the uncommon words] Ibn Hishām said: Al-ankāl are shackles, the singular of which is nikl. Ruʾbah b. al-ʿAjjāj said: My shackles suffice you against the oppression of every shackle. This verse is in an urjūzah of his.
