Translation

✧ [ The sending of Ibn Rawāḥah and Zayd as bearers of good tidings ] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then the Messenger of God ﷺ, at the time of the victory, sent ʿAbd Allāh b. Rawāḥah as a bearer of good tidings to the people of the highlands, with what God, mighty and majestic is He, had granted of victory to His Messenger ﷺ and to the Muslims, and he sent Zayd b. Ḥārithah to the people of the lowlands. Usāmah b. Zayd said: The news came to us—when we had leveled the earth over Ruqayyah, daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, who was with ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān. The Messenger of God ﷺ had left me behind with her along with ʿUthmān—that Zayd b. Ḥārithah had arrived. He said: I came to him while he was standing in the prayer place, with the people thronging around him, and he was saying: ʿUtbah b. Rabīʿah has been killed, and Shaybah b. Rabīʿah, and Abū Jahl b. Hishām, and Zamʿah b. al-Aswad, and Abū al-Bakhtarī al-ʿĀṣ b. Hishām, and Umayyah b. Khalaf, and Nubayh and Munabbih, the two sons of al-Ḥajjāj. He said: I said: O father, is this true? He said: Yes, by God, O my son.
