The Messenger's Entreaty to His Lord for Victory
[ مَقْتَلُ مِهْجَعٍ وَابْنِ سُرَاقَةَ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَقَدْ رُمِيَ مِهْجَعٌ، مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ بِسَهْمِ فَقُتِلَ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ قَتِيلٍ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، ثُمَّ رُمِيَ حَارِثَةُ بْنُ سُرَاقَةَ، أَحَدُ بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ، وَهُوَ يَشْرَبُ مِنْ الْحَوْضِ، بِسَهْمِ فَأَصَابَ نَحْرَهُ، فَقُتِلَ
Translation
✧ [The killing of Mihjaʿ and Ibn Surāqah] Ibn Isḥāq said: Mihjaʿ, the freedman of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, was shot with an arrow and killed. He was the first slain among the Muslims. Then Ḥārithah b. Surāqah, one of the Banū ʿAdī b. al-Najjār, was shot with an arrow while he was drinking from the cistern, and it struck his throat, and he was killed.
